Directions to Rancho del Chaparral Girl Scout Camp

map to Rancho del Chaparral Girl Scout Camp

From Cuba, turn east on Highway 126 just north of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.  The road splits one-half mile out of town; go to the right as the sign indicates.  About 9.5 miles further, the pavement ends and you continue on a dirt road.  Stay on this main road (SR 126), keeping to the right at any fork in the road.  Just past the 17-mile marker, turn right on Forest Road 20.  This heads south and approximately 3 miles further a sign will direct you to the right over a bridge. After you cross the river, turn left, follow along the river and then climb a steep hill.  The gate to camp is just over the rise.

Please close the gate behind you.  It is one more mile to camp headquarters.

When you arrive at camp, park in the main parking lot. Do not park along the road.  Proceed to the Dining Hall, just south of the parking lot, for New Mexico Forestry Camp registration.

Because of our partnership with the Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails Council, we are able to use their camp.  Our job as participants in New Mexico Forestry Camp is to maintain the trust the Girl Scouts have developed in our organization.  We do this by respecting their property and following their rules and policies.

Camp is at 8,000 feet elevation.  Campers will be hiking and walking in hilly terrain ALL week.   Weather for camp can vary, so campers need to be prepared for anything.  See the “What to Bring to Camp,” list. Campers will sleep in canvas tents on wooden platforms.  Tents have no heat and no electricity.  There is one shower house, several wash houses, and latrine toilets.

Full meals and snacks will be provided.  PLEASE DO NOT BRING SNACKS IN TO YOUR TENT.  We don’t want wildlife, big or small entering our tents!

No store is available at camp, so please remember to bring what’s on the list.  Which is a separate document on this website titled, “What to Bring to Camp.”
